We Receive Justice

Luke 23:37, 39-41
37 and saying, “If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.” 39 Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.” 40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.”

Save yourself and us - so the taunt went to stop Jesus from dying for us, and to keep us from deliverance from death and hell.  But as the Christ, the Messiah, Jesus willingly hung there in innocence in our place.  We are condemned men, justly deserving punishment, not Him.  That He died for us is grace and mercy. If we fear God, we accept this and turn to Him for life as we die to ourselves.
