Bearing His Cross

Luke 23:26
Now as they led Him away, they laid hold of a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, who was coming from the country, and on him they laid the cross that he might bear it after Jesus.

Simon was made to bear the cross of Jesus on the long walk to Jesus' death on it.  We are similarly called to take up our cross every day - to take on dying to self to find new life at the end finally.  He died for us, we die to live for Him, and the hope (not wish) of a certain life beginning now and into forever makes it bearable each day.
