Watching at a Distance

Luke 23:48-49
48 And the whole crowd who came together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their breasts and returned. 49 But all His acquaintances, and the women who followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.

Most of those who saw Jesus die on that cross then were sorrowful, maybe even to repentance.  Bit those who knew Him kept back, as if not wanting to be associated with Jesus, or not wanting to face that He was now dead and seemingly unable to help them any longer.  Neither group really understood the words He spoke before this, that death would be followed by resurrection; it was hidden until revealed before their very eyes.  So it is with us - unless God leads us with a call to open our eyes, we miss what has been in front of us all along. This is the faith of grace.
