Luke 24:48-52
48 And you are witnesses of these things. 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” 50 And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. 51 Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,
Those who were there to see Jesus fulfill all God said from the beginning of time were witnesses with the task of proclaiming repentance and taking away of sin through Christ. But they had to wait first until they were given power to enable the authority entrusted. So with joy they waited and worshipped. Since the day their wait ended and God as Spirit lived in them, they witnessed with power and authority; we now coming to Him have both at regeneration, having His Spirit immediately and forever present in us. So we are witnesses also.
