Luke 14:3-6
3 And Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” 4 But they kept silent. And He took him and healed him, and let him go. 5 Then He answered them, saying, “Which of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?” 6 And they could not answer Him regarding these things.
The religious leaders were waiting to pounce on Jesus to catch the smallest thing to accuse or discredit Him with. When Jesus asked a direct question before helping a man on a religious day where it was supposedly forbidden to do any work, they refused to answer. He further reminded them how they themselves also broke their own rule when it profited them, silencing further accusations in their revealed guilt. Do we judge harshly or in mercy and truth?
