Luke 15:30-32
30 But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.’ 31 “And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours. 32 It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.’ ”
The brother of the returned prodigal could not understand his father's open arms for his sinful brother. Be missed the fact that the prodigal was dead and lost, and now came to life in being found. So are we, lost in sin's grip and dead to God inside - until found by His Son who took our punishment so we could freely find our Father's love in a new life! That is cause for God to "make merry and be glad."
