Luke 14:25-27
25 Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. 27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
Do we truly love God more than anyone else, so much that our love for those closest to us is closer to hate than love? Jesus pointed out that we are to have no other before Him to become our gods. A disciple follows one master. To do this we must nail ourselves to the cross each day, dying to our desires to live for Him above all others. This does not negate our love and responsibilities for others, it just eclipses them.
