Acts 1:4-5
4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
The apostles listened to Jesus when He told them to wait for God's Spirit to immerse them as promised, for then His law would be in their hearts made new and not on stony ones. The call to repentance had a ceremonial washing of water, but the salvation would be God filling all His children with Himself. So they waited. We now who are His have His Spirit, having repented and been reborn; there is no more waiting for more of Him - yielding, we offer more of us to His sovereign reign over us.
