Acts 2:36-39
36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
Jesus is both the anointed of God and Lord of all, and mankind crucified Him. With that knowledge and knowing we deserve the death for sin that He took in our place, what should we do? We do not respond to God by joining a church or merely trying to live a moral life, but do as we hear here: turn from our life of sin with a mind knowing Jesus was perfect for us, and be immersed into Christ Himself and find a new birth with God Himself coming to live in us by faith He gives to as many of us as He calls out. When God opens our eyes and gives us the ability to believe, we turn to Him through Christ. No group we join or works we do can earn such a priceless gift!
