It is Finished!

John 19:28-30
28 After this, Jesus, seeing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” 29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

Jesus hung long enough on the cross to fulfill scriptures like Psalm 22, then said that His work was done to suffer and die for us.  His thirst satisfied, Jesus gave His Spirit leave of the body and died to pay the price of our sin as the final and complete sacrifice to satisfy God's just anger on our disobedience to Him.  He did all He said since Genesis, and died as a blameless and pure lamb on the final altar of wood as foreshadowed by the one Abraham built for Isaac long ago.  The promises of the Messiah were finished, and soon to be effective by the resurrection.
