Mark 4:33-34
33 And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it. 34 But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.
Jesus compared spiritual things with known physical examples to give the opportunity to understand God's ways, yet even His close followers needed these pointed out and made clear. When people are confronted with these truths they need His help. We do not as fallen men think as God does - even the Jews in the Old Testament heard the truth unveiled and disobeyed. So Jesus gave the chance to think and wrestle to grasp what God has been saying all along. Thus the parables. And so His Spirit to give understanding...
