Mark 7:3-8
3 For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands in a special way, holding the tradition of the elders. ... 6 He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. 7 And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men—the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.”
Religion demands mandatory activities as sacred in place of God's commands. These traditions become problems with God when they override His words to us by making personal choices into judgements on others who do not do the same as the creators of the mere traditions. We would be wise to examine what others do which we insist God demands and angers or irritates us when they do not do those things - if God did not command it, it is not demanded. Speak truth in love above all.
