A Seemingly Insignificant Seed

Mark 4:30-32
30 Then He said, “To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? 31 It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; 32 but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.”

God's kingdom starts with a seed, small and seemingly insignificant.  But in time it becomes as a tree, branching out and providing home and shelter to live and grow in.  This is true in both individuals and in Christ's work in the universal church.  In each of us when we are reborn we grow over time in sanctification, becoming more like Jesus, and so His kingdom grows within us.  In the larger group of all new creation we see His kingdom grow into eternity as more find their home in Him.  So is he refuge with shade for the heat of the day until He returns.
