Matthew 17:18-20
18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” 20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
When a lunatic (lit., 'moonstruck') child who was overrun by a fallen angel was healed by Jesus, the disciples wondered why they could not make the demon leave as Christ's representatives. Jesus explained they needed to trust and rely on Him more. He used this not to have them do miraculous things such as moving a mountain, but to trust Him for the strength in the gospel preaching and serving.
