Matthew 16:21-23
21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day. 22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!” 23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
Jesus said He would suffer from the religious leaders for bearing witness to the truth in Himself they denied, that He would be killed to die for His own, and yet rise from death to life. This is why He did all this - to pay our sin's weighty price that we could rise from death to eternity without sin's just due. So we cannot deny the suffering for His name's sake, we cannot deny Him who cannot deny Himself. We must be mindful of God's things, seeing from His only right perspective.
