God Looks at the Heart

Matthew 15:10-12
10 When He had called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear and understand: 11 Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”  12 Then His disciples came and said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”

God sees our hearts.  We can hear and see disturbing things and others can do their best to wrongly influence each of us, but it comes down to what we allow to grow in our heart.  Out of what we store there comes what we think, believe, and feel.  Here the religious leaders were offended because the status quo was upset on the hidden sin that came out in unloving and God dis-honoring actions and words.  They could not hide behind religious rules covering God's anymore.  Jesus and His word reveal what lies within; we must be transformed by these.
