Matthew 22:36-40
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
The summation of the law, the first and second commandments, cover all that is in the details of the ten and what should guide or motivate us. Loving God with every aspect and effort of who we are comes first, and right after that is to love others as we do ourselves. This means living with active and living worship to God and caring to do the best to others (as we want them to do to us). This is what holds the entire Bible together, for God sees the heart, our deepest motive, along with action.
