Matthew 23:8-12
8 But you, do not be called “Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. 9 Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. 10 And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. 11 But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
The religious leaders in Jesus time, Rabbis, were leader/teachers or masters to be followed. But they became proud, exalted themselves based on the importance they gave themselves. We are told not to lift up and worship our leaders, but only God (the first commandment, old and new). Jesus alone is our master, teacher, and leader, and this should make us humble and willing servants, not lording over others as it is written, "1 Peter 5:3 nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock;"
