Matthew 14:1-2
1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report about Jesus 2 and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.”
Herod thought that Jesus' power was from man - a dead man come back to life after he had him put to death. The reality is that Jesus is God come back from the dead by His own power, not a ghost or walking dead but a living God and Savior. Even now people see Him as a man, whether prophet or gifted, but fail to see clearly that God was among us as a man. Knowing who He is makes all the difference, for only a perfect man (who was also therefore God) could live perfectly and so die in our place to justify us before a holy and righteous Judge.
