Anticipation of Redemption

Psalms 130:1-8
A Song of Ascents.

1 Out of the depths I have cried to You, O LORD;

2 Lord, hear my voice!
Let Your ears be attentive
To the voice of my supplications.

3 If You, LORD, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?

4 But there is forgiveness with You,
That You may be feared.

5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
And in His word I do hope.

6 My soul waits for the Lord
More than those who watch for the morning—
Yes, more than those who watch for the morning.

7 O Israel, hope in the LORD;
For with the LORD there is mercy,
And with Him is abundant redemption.

8 And He shall redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Today’s song sung while ascending to worship the LORD carries with the singers an anticipation of redemption.  The cry is out of the depths of despair carved out by the knowledge of sin and its just penalty of God’s wrath against the unrighteousness which lines our fouled souls since Adam’s fall from grace.  The cry goes up with heartfelt repentance that God may hear he supplications for forgiveness and reconciliation.  Of course, the good news follows that nobody could stand before God because none is righteous, no not one, yet He chooses to not mark our iniquities as Psalm 143:2 says so plainly for our understanding as David pleaded with the LORD, “Do not enter into judgment with Your servant, For in Your sight no one living is righteous.”  Yes, there is forgiveness in the grace of God, unearned and undeserved!  This is the good news foretold of God’s working to come when He stood at last upon the earth along with us.  The psalmist knew this by revelation and waited patiently for God according to the certain hope of His word (Ephesians 3:5, Colossians 1:26, 2 Timothy 1:10) for redemption, the salvation of our souls from a certain and deserved end.  Like the writer inspired by God to pen these words, we also have waited on the Lord more Han others watch and wait for the chance at another day to live.  We as God’s people have hope in that mercy because of the clear and certain light of the abundant redemption in His Christ in whom we have believed and now follow.  He shall certainly redeem His chosen ones from Israel and all the nations promised from Abraham and through them to the nations.  He redeems us from our iniquities and sinful fallen nature of rebellion that we might take Him at His word and act accordingly, not in seeking the knowledge of good and evil in our own imaginations, but by His instruction from His own words (Genesis 2:17, Hebrews 5:14, John 6:45).  Yes, we had anticipated our redemption and found it fulfilled in Christ Jesus our Lord, and now anticipate the consummation of our salvation in eternity.  Amen!
