Acts 6:8-11
8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people. 9 Then there arose some from what is called the Synagogue of the Freedmen (Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and those from Cilicia and Asia), disputing with Stephen. 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke. 11 Then they secretly induced men to say, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”
When God's man spoke and acted in faith he had Christ's power and authority driving against the present darkness around him. So when those opposed to the gospel could not argue against the Spirit-driven wisdom of Stephen, they brought charges against him instead to stop what they did not want to hear, the truth. Even now legislation is aimed at shutting the mouths of truth and life; not able to contradict God, they seek to silence the source. But God is neither helpless nor quiet. So we speak.
