Mark 12:38-40
38 Then He said to them in His teaching, “Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in the marketplaces, 39 the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts, 40 who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”
When we as Christians begin to put on airs of self importance, we miss the attitude of Paul who admitted he was the chief of sinners and could do nothing except for Christ in him by grace and enabling power. Those who expect respect with demands and retaliate against those who disagree need this humility - so we must not only watch for errant leaders and teachers, but seek humility in ourselves under His mighty hand to be lifted up in His due time for eternity.
