Vain Attempt to Keep Jesus in the Grave

Matthew 27:62-64
62 On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, 63 saying, “Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise.’ 64 Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead.’ So the last deception will be worse than the first.”

The priests and religious leaders who pushed to kill Jesus wanted to make certain that He would not be seen as who He said by raising Himself from death to life again - so they asked for guards to watch at nobody stole His body and then fulfilled His claim as God in the flesh.  They said this was a probable deception, but they saw the miracles and heard the truth Jesus spoke, so they feared He might rise also.  But man cannot limit God, and we must know He rose to assure us He can and will raise us from death to life as well, both now and into forever.  He proved it and promised it.
