Forgive to be Forgiven

Matthew 6:14-15
14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

This tells us that God fully expects us to do as He does with us. So we must love others as ourselves. There are consequences when we refuse to forgive after He has forgiven us all in Christ for our sin deserving justly to be punished. But we do not forgive others just to be forgiven because of this, but because the second greatest commandment shows the change within should be resulting in love for others, and we can only love this way knowing and experiencing His love for us. This goes against our fallen nature, but is an essential mindset for action as we walk in step with His Spirit living in us.
