Signs and Wonders, or Belief?

John 4:48-53
48 Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.” 49 The nobleman said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!” 50 Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. 52 Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” 53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household.

Jesus spoke with the same authority as when creating the earth, and the official's son was instantly made well, escaping death. When the man heard his son was alive and well, he believed in Jesus, for only with God was such a thing possible.  He may not have known Jesus was the Son of God, but did see divinity in action and believed for the work's sake.  So we hear Jesus now and the testimonials of those written down like this to move us to see who He is and trustingly believe in thought, word, and will.
