Who Do You Say I Am?

Mark 8:27-29
27 Now Jesus and His disciples went out to the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road He asked His disciples, saying to them, “Who do men say that I am?” 28 So they answered, “John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” 29 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”  Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”

Many have varying ideas and opinions of who Jesus is, but the only true answer is that He is the Christ, the Messiah, the anointed and chosen one of God to deliver us from His wrath on our justly due punishment by our sin.  Sin is rebellion against God and all He says is good and right in our thoughts, desires and actions - our hearts and deeds.  Only the anointed, the one who is God and man, could pay the penalty for us because He is pure as God and tempted as a man like us.  This is the gospel, the good news, that Jesus is the Christ!
