Micah 5:6-15
When the Assyrian comes into our land,
And when he treads in our palaces,
Then we will raise against him
Seven shepherds and eight princely men.
6 They shall waste with the sword the land of Assyria,
And the land of Nimrod at its entrances;
Thus He shall deliver us from the Assyrian,
When he comes into our land
And when he treads within our borders.
7 Then the remnant of Jacob
Shall be in the midst of many peoples,
Like dew from the LORD,
Like showers on the grass,
That tarry for no man
Nor wait for the sons of men.
8 And the remnant of Jacob
Shall be among the Gentiles,
In the midst of many peoples,
Like a lion among the beasts of the forest,
Like a young lion among flocks of sheep,
Who, if he passes through,
Both treads down and tears in pieces,
And none can deliver.
9 Your hand shall be lifted against your adversaries,
And all your enemies shall be cut off.
10 "And it shall be in that day," says the LORD,
"That I will cut off your horses from your midst
And destroy your chariots.
11 I will cut off the cities of your land
And throw down all your strongholds.
12 I will cut off sorceries from your hand,
And you shall have no soothsayers.
13 Your carved images I will also cut off,
And your sacred pillars from your midst;
You shall no more worship the work of your hands;
14 I will pluck your wooden images from your midst;
Thus I will destroy your cities.
15 And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury
On the nations that have not heard."
God promised to execute judgment on the enemies of His people Israel. He would use even the mild shepherds with the weak princes to drive them back with the sword as He gave them strength for victory. God would also drive them out Himself by repelling the invaders as He had many times in the past already to demonstrate the power was His alone (2 Chronicles 20:6-7, Psalm 59:11). The remnant of His people would then be multiplied in the midst of the lands around Israel whose numbers and presence would not tarry for anything or anyone. God would multiply them once more to continue filling the earth as planned and by His divine command. That remnant among the nations would be like a strong lion as a picture of the Lion of the tribe of Judah, Jesus Christ the Messiah (Genesis 49:9-10, Revelation 5:5). The remnant would also be victorious over the enemy and nobody would be able to deliver from their hand (nor from out of His, John 10:28-29). They would cut off their enemies by God’s strength and have their own armies dismantled because they would no longer (Zechariah 9:10) be necessary with the LORD as their defense. He would also cut off their sins of sorcery and occult fortune tellers as modern day horoscope and tarot readers and self-proclaimed witches who worship the earth instead of the Creator. He would cut down their idols, imagined gods which were the work of their their own hands instead of the One whose hand brought everything into existence. He would cut off and level the cities which had led His people into such idolatry and immortality in His divine vengeance. Such things God will do in the final judgment when all are held accountable for disbelief and disobedience in denying Him as the only God and to whom all worship is due. Those who reject His Word (John 6:29) of the gospel of deliverance will remain under their condemnation (John 3:18-20) instead of hearing and turning to the light of the world (John 3:21, Revelation 2:7) for eternal pardon. Only the remnant of Israel and the nations who have ears to hear and eyes opened to see will be delivered to enter into glory. Outside will be those who had continued to worship others (Revelation 22:14-15) and live in unrepentant sin. God does not want His creation to perish (Ezekiel 33:11, 2 Peter 3:9) but to live by faith (Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:16-17). The gospel message is still to turn from sin to Him and live! There is no other way but through trusting the words and work of Jesus the Messiah (Acts 4:12) as obedience to the gospel to escape being judged as God’s enemy.
