Amos 9:11-15
11 "On that day I will raise up
The tabernacle of David, which has fallen down,
And repair its damages;
I will raise up its ruins,
And rebuild it as in the days of old;
12 That they may possess the remnant of Edom,
And all the Gentiles who are called by My name,"
Says the LORD who does this thing.
13 "Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD,
"When the plowman shall overtake the reaper,
And the treader of grapes him who sows seed;
The mountains shall drip with sweet wine,
And all the hills shall flow with it.
14 I will bring back the captives of My people Israel;
They shall build the waste cities and inhabit them;
They shall plant vineyards and drink wine from them;
They shall also make gardens and eat fruit from them.
15 I will plant them in their land,
And no longer shall they be pulled up
From the land I have given them,"
Says the LORD your God.
God promised to restore His chosen and fallen people by repairing the temple where they could once more worship Him and find atonement in sacrifices. This is referred t in Acts 15:16-17, 18 as it was written, “So that the rest of mankind may seek the LORD, even all the Gentiles who are called by My name.” Their deliverance was to fulfill God’s promise to Abraham as father of all (Galatians 3:8-9) the called children of God (Romans 11:11). God knew this work that He would do from before He created us (Ephesians 1:4-6) for “Known to God from eternity are all His works.” They would bring not just mere rule over the nations around them, but being spiritual blessings as well, the greatest being the blessing of salvation from sin’s penalty in the restoration of reconciliation in Christ (Romans 6:23)! The restoration and repair of God’s chosen ones would also bring provision to meet all their needs no more (Psalm 1:3, Matthew 6:31-33, Philippians 4:19) as signified by the plowman and makers of wine not being able to keep up with God’s bountiful supply by His immense grace out of love for His chosen children. He promised to set those free who were in bondage as a foretaste of deliverance for all the called children of God from the bondage of sin and penalty of death (Isaiah 61:1, Hebrews 2:14-15). The LORD promised a permanence for them by telling them that they would never be uprooted from the kingdom again, once more pointing to the persevering salvation from sin and death and Hell which is due to all descendants of Adam. Nobody can take us from God in Christ (Isaiah 43:13, John 10:28-29)! He has permanently restored (Colossians 1:20-21) us to the state and standing which we had at creation in the beginning (Genesis 1:26-27, 31) according to His Word (John 1:1, 4, 10, 12-13, Romans 5:10-11). We who therefore have been reconciled in Jesus Christ to our Heavenly Father have the inward testimony of His Spirit living in us who gives substance and understanding of these things according to His Word, written and living (Hebrews 4:12), as proof and assurance of our restoration of relationship with Him in our reconciliation. Give Him the honor, glory, and praise of thanksgiving!
