Regular Worship Resumed

1 Chronicles 16:37-43
37 So he left Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD to minister before the ark regularly, as every day's work required; 38 and Obed-Edom with his sixty-eight brethren, including Obed-Edom the son of Jeduthun, and Hosah, to be gatekeepers; 39 and Zadok the priest and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high place that was at Gibeon, 40 to offer burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offering regularly morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the Law of the LORD which He commanded Israel; 41 and with them Heman and Jeduthun and the rest who were chosen, who were designated by name, to give thanks to the LORD, because His mercy endures forever; 42 and with them Heman and Jeduthun, to sound aloud with trumpets and cymbals and the musical instruments of God. Now the sons of Jeduthun were gatekeepers.
43 Then all the people departed, every man to his house; and David returned to bless his house.

Regular worship was resumed after the Ark of God’s covenant with His people was brought back into a tabernacle as designed and the people thankfully worshipped in the beauty of holiness, doing all according to God’s word.  They were set apart for the LORD and all had to be done decently and in order (1 Corinthians 14:40) to be pleasing to Him in this holiness.  The example set by Asaph and his brothers to serve God faithfully and consistently was the return to regular worship before Israel had fallen away with another king of their own desire and choosing.  They did whatever was necessary each day to return to normal as God defined it.  The priests regularly offered sacrifices for sin’s atonement according to God’s word, and gave continuous thanks for His great unending mercy towards them all.  They did this with loud music of praise in their worship.  At the end of this first long celebration of the return, they all went home as David did in blessing his own when he got home.  We can look forward to this as well when we are kept from regular worship together, whether by choice or by circumstance, by humble thankful hearts praising and thanking our Lord for His great mercy and compassion in His sovereign grace (Hebrews 13:15) in Christ our King forever.  Amen.
