Powers, Kings, God’s Chosen, and Victory

Revelation 17:9-18
9 “Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. 10 There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time. 11 The beast that was, and is not, is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven, and is going to perdition.
12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. 14 These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.”
15 Then he said to me, “The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues. 16 And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire. 17 For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled. 18 And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.”

Seven heads which are seven hills where Babylon’s harlot sits, and seven kings until the eighth which is the beast killed and made alive and is headed to eternal destruction.  These can be interpreted many ways, and the truth may never be known until it is unveiled as it happens.  This is the same with the ten kingdoms joining that beast and supporting him with their power and authority to war against the Lamb of God.  Ah, but the victory is certain because the Lamb will defeat them utterly.  He is the Lord of all lords and the absolute King over all kings which ever have been or ever will be.  The army of the Lamb is made up of all who are called, chosen, and faithful in Christ, the saints made holy in Christ’s righteousness alone; that is who we are who are the invisible church made by His hands alone!  A further explanation of the realm of the harlot’s seat of power is described, showing the power exerted over so many nations and people groups.  The ten nations will turn on the harlot of Babylon and bring destruction on her; this is because God will move them to do so for His sovereign purpose and time, allowing them to singlemindedly give all to the beast for the evil one.  God will fulfill every word He has spoken.  That is our assurance of eternity and of defeat over the city on seven hills ruling with influence and power over the governments of the world.  There is such a city with an abominable religious power that has influenced kings for centuries; we will see if she is this one as time and God’s plan unfolds.
