Revelation 4:6-11
6 Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back. 7 The first living creature was like a lion, the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. 8 The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying:
“Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God Almighty,
Who was and is and is to come!”
9 Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:
11 “You are worthy, O Lord,
To receive glory and honor and power;
For You created all things,
And by Your will they exist and were created.”
“Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God Almighty,
Who was and is and is to come!”

John sees the Lord on His throne and is dazzled with awe at the sight. In front of it is a sea of glassy crystal as none ever seen on earth. Around the throne are four living beings unlike any imaginable; they have eyes all around to see everything, looking like a man, a lion, a calf, and an eagle as if representative of all God’s creation on earth. Not only that, but they have six wings to fly around the Most Holy in worship as in Isaiah 6:2-3. They echo the worship Isaiah heard ascribing glory to God with exclamations of “Holy, holy, holy” and acknowledging He is the Almighty One who always existed and ever will exist, the great IAM. Not only that, bit John observed that whenever the angelic seraphs think and praise God, the twenty-four elders fall prostrate on the ground in humility, being undone as Isaiah was. They worship the eternal Lord God and give their crowning achievements back to the One who earned them by the cross, and likewise sing out words of worshipful praise and glory. They tell Him how worthy He is to get all the glory because He alone has all power and honor; He created all things by the Word of His power, Jesus the Christ, willing our existence and creating us in His image to glorify and worship Him in all praise. We honor our Maker (Psalm 95:6) in shadows of the ways we will in eternity before His throne in the New Jerusalem when all is made new (Revelation 21:5, 22:3-5). How we who have been called out eagerly await that day to glorify Him forevermore! Amen.
